Dating Violence

The concept of “the dating violence” which has been revealed in the 1980’s, is defined as; “painful or hurtful all of the words, gestures and behaviors including the use of physical or psychological force and threats against the partner in dating relationship”. There are different types of dating violence as physical, psychological, sexual violence or neglect. Although it has characteristics that similar to other forms of violence, there are also different risk factors that have been determined. Because of its short-term and long term health effects, and the fact that there are limited studies in our country although it is a common condition worldwide; dating violence should be defined and studied as a separate topic. The main aim of the fight with dating violence should be to prevent the violence before it occurs. Risk factors which is specific to our country should be identified and the prevention studies for them should be conducted. School-based approach is a method that can be used for this purpose and the studies in this topic, showed that the school-based approach method may decrease the dating violence.
